Attila Gyárfás is a Hungarian drummer primarily focusing on free improvisation and on researching the tonal possibilities of the drum set. He has appeared on over 30 albums and performed at numerous major venues and festivals alongside artists including Alexander von Schlippenbach, Malik Mezzadri, Ralph Alessi, and Seijiro Murayama.
In his solo performances, Attila uses an ordinary drum set as a starting point for unrestricted improvisations that draw inspiration from Laozi's Tao Te Ching. The music is built upon non-quantized rhythms and unique timbres, achieved through the use of unconventional movements and extended techniques, creating a listening experience that is both ecstatic and intimate.
As landmarks of his work as a soloist, Attila has released two drum solo LPs: Minimal Distance (2022) and Maginified Solos (2025).
