Inspired by non-European musical traditions, unconventional tuning systems, and psychedelic ritual performance, Decolonize Your Mind Society has developed a truly unique sound. Their distinctive sonic palette is shaped by instruments such as the award-winning Glissotar wind instrument, designed by Dániel Váczi, refretted just-intonation and fretless guitars, and a retunable analogue synthesizer that further expands their mind-blowing musical universe.
Just intonation music needs new approaches, new instruments and their effort on their debut record seems quite extraordinary. On “Anabatic Prism” they tried to celebrate life through the sheer joy of playing together and they wanted to present these extremely colourful tunes to the public as a reminder that there is always a bright side of this amazing magical universe.
With their second album, released in 2023, the band created an equally distinctive sonic world, this time exploring tempered tunings based on equal divisions of the octave, odd rhythms, and a wider range of instruments with flexible pitch.
The final release of the series coming out in November 2026 conjures an uncompromising acrobatic beam of light through which previously unseen colours, harmonies and timbres become both visible and audible. As the album cover suggests, the record unfolds like a psychedelic visual orgy translated into sound: a dazzling parade of tones from the era before total decolourisation, colours from forgotten pasts, futures that never came to be, and imagined realities. Within this kaleidoscopic landscape, fragments of parallel, multiversal worlds emerge, revealing music as it might truly exist: gloriously unbound.
At first glance, it may seem like an escape from reality. In fact, it is quite the opposite: a (not so) quiet revolution. An invitation to step beyond the narrow confines of established systems, to dare to be bold, and to surrender ourselves to the acrobatic beam of light. The landscape that unfolds may be unlike anything we have encountered before: a strange, recoloured, upside-down world comes to life, and suddenly, we begin to hear the tunnel at the end of the light.
